  1. Step 1

    0–12 months

    Social smile, response to sound, tracking, cooing then babble, sitting, first words.

  2. Step 2

    1–2 years

    First words, following simple instructions, pointing to show interest, walking, pretend play.

  3. Step 3

    2–3 years

    Short sentences, playing near other children, simple pretend play, running, imitating.

  4. Step 4

    3–5 years

    Conversation, cooperative play, imaginative play, drawing, listening to stories.

  5. Step 5

    School age

    Reading, sustained attention, friendships, following multi-step instructions, sport and interests.
